Admissions

Thank you for considering Valley View School for your son. We recognize the pain that comes from watching your son struggle in life and become either stuck developmentally or head down a negative path. Since 1970, Valley View has provided struggling boys and their families a structured, healing environment, which enables our students to reset on a positive path. Early-mid adolescence is a crucial time in a boy’s development. It is a time of stress, but also a time of great growth. Providing boys with the proper mix of structure, support, and therapeutic services can have lifelong implications and can help establish a positive trajectory. We are honored to have the opportunity to work with our students and dedicate ourselves to fostering their emotional health, academic achievement, and personal growth.

Typical Valley View Student

We accept students who are 11 to 15 years old on admission. Our boys arrive with diagnoses and issues such as:

  • ADHD
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • School avoidance
  • Autism spectrum disorder - higher functioning
  • Oppositional behavior
  • Family discord
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Academic underachievement
  • Compulsive gaming

Additionally, our arriving students often demonstrate conflicts with peers, emotional and behavioral dysregulation, contentious family relationships, lack of motivation, academic problems and a general inability to maintain a positive developmental arc. Our program has been designed to address these behaviors and support healing and positive growth.

We do not accept boys who have issues such as psychotic disorders, serious conduct disorders, significant drug abuse and boys with violent tendencies. These students require specialized treatment and would not fit within our program.

Average Length of Stay

By the time a boy arrives at Valley View, most of the typical interventions, such as school counseling, medication, individual and family therapy, and behavioral plans, have proven insufficient. Our program is all encompassing and aims at genuine, sustained change and growth. As such, time is an important factor. Our average length of stay is 18 months to 2 years. This is the typical amount of time it takes most of our students to meet their program goals (see program goals - hyperlink) A few students may be ready to leave prior to this average, and some boys stay with us for three + years. We are continually assessing our students’ progress and collaborate with parents and, if relevant, educational consultants, in these crucial decisions.

Tuition

Clearly, therapeutic boarding schools are expensive to operate and a significant investment for families.

We strive to provide the most professional educational and therapeutic experience possible for your son. In addition, we work to be efficient and cost-effective. Since Valley View School is a 501(c)(3) non-profit institution, all of our tuition is used for the wellbeing of our students and the operation of our program. Tuition is currently $130,000 per year.
